Spring & Easter in Tuscany

Spring & Easter in Tuscany

Tuscany is simply glorious in Spring, and there is no better place from which to experience it than at Villa Ardore, in the heart of the Tuscan wine country. The crisp mornings of March give way to warmer currents of air and the brilliant sunlight for which Tuscany is so famous. The countryside is a symphony of unfurling leaves and blossoms and the uplifting chirrups of birdsong. After the nourishing rains of winter, the sweet, undulating hills of the Chianti Classico are at their greenest and the light at its most enchanting,

Energy is everywhere as the wineries, restaurants, shops, and entire towns around the villa seem to emerge from hibernation.

Take a car, explore cities and the smaller villages, and embark on a culinary tour, stopping to sample local delicacies. The delicate flavors of spring are celebrated everywhere. This is the time to savour the sublime combination of young pecorino cheese and fava beans drizzled with olive oil pressed just a few months earlier.

Local cuisine is as colourful as the season itself, as wild asparagus, artichokes, and many other fresh ingredients find their way to the table. It is the perfect moment to indulge in Tuscany’s healthy and varied gastronomy – or even learn more about it by taking part in a cooking program.

A classic route option is to start in romantic Florence and stroll the streets of its historical center. If you find the time, also head south of the river Arno to Giardino Torrigiani, a 16th-century, UNESCO-protected garden (and Europe’s largest of its kind) featuring 17 acres filled with plants and tree species from around the world.

During the Easter weekend, no matter where you are in Tuscany, something is going on, be it processions, plays, fireworks, or Easter egg hunts. In Florence or Panzano, don’t miss the historical ‘Scoppio del Carro’ on Easter Sunday, when the city lights up an ornate cart filled with fireworks, signifying good luck for the upcoming harvest.

In April, temperatures start warming up, and spring is well underway. The days are mild and sunny, and there are blossoming flowers in the fields and along the roads: forsythia, almond, and cherry trees, to name a few.

It’s a great time to recharge, feel sun-kissed in the beauty of the outdoors, and enjoy the best-loved attractions before the busier Summer season.
