A Dream In Each Drop
The moment you reach Poggio Amorelli you understand what Tuscany is all about.
Founded on the hilltops near Castellina in the heart of the Chianti Classico zone in 1997, Poggio Amorelli represents the fulfillment of the dream of renowned Tuscan winemaker and agronomist Marco Mazzarini.
That dream, now a reality, was to make wines of the highest quality, taking advantage of the latest advancements in wine-making knowledge while at the same time respecting Chianti Classico’s ancient traditions–wines as simple but as beautiful as nature. Wines with a firm tie to the land, the terroir, but also unique, as they reflect Mazzarini’s individuality as a winemaker .
A passion-driven family business run by Marco Mazzarini, together with his wife Adriana, and their 3 children Gloria, Raoul, and Amedeo, today the company consists of three estates in Tuscany and produces a variety of 6 IGT and DOCG Wines, Vin Santo, Grappa, Balsamic Vinegar (IGP, DOP, and Extravecchio), and Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
Two of the estates are situated in the renowned Chianti DOCG production area while one is in the Maremma, a beautiful and rich terroir near the sea in the southwest of Tuscany. The balsamic is produced in a small artisan factory in Modena, the homeland of balsamic vinegar.
Following the classic methods with great dedication, every vine variety is exalted to create wines that clearly reflect the geographic environment and obtain the most authentic expression of the territory. The production is done in-house, from the vine to the bottle. This authenticity is the central theme of Poggio Amorelli’s winemaking philosophy.
The grape harvest takes place between September and October and is the most awaited event, culminating a year’s work in the vineyards. The harvest is done by hand to select the best grape bunches and avoid stressing the plant. After the harvest, the berries are selected according to the criteria chosen by Mazzarrini, who selects only berries that meet the highest quality standards. Then, the various winemaking processes begin according to the type of grape and the vineyard. This meticulous care and selection continues in the cellar to respect the fruit and its unique expression of place.
A beautiful synergy and joint initiatives have emerged between Villa Adore and the Mazzarrini family ever since owners Christian & Stephen visited the estate for the first time more than a decade ago to see the production process for themselves and taste the exquisite wines. And today, what started as a business excursion to find out whether the rumors of a “hidden gem” of a winery were true (they were!) as developed into a lasting friendship between Christian and Stephen and the Mazzarrini family.
When you come to Villa Ardore, you won’t want to miss a visit to Poggio Amorelli. Thanks to an expert sommelier, a brief tour of the winery becomes an all-encompassing, immersive discovery of Chianti, followed by a leisurely wine tasting on the most beautiful rooftop terrace with a perfectly framed view of the vineyard. These thinags alone are enough to make the experience one you’ll never forget. But what will make it truly unique is the feeling you will get, of being embraced by the warmth of the Mazzarrini family and their team, of being welcome not as customers, but as friends.
